For the purpose of facilitating research in the franchise field and making suggestions for future research topics, this study first classifies the research topics in the franchise field, and in accordance with this classification, has reviewed the studies published in the "Franchising Journal". The research achievements of the study or the subjects that lacked the research were presented. As a result of analyzing 100 SSCI papers, the research in the franchise field was largely divided into franchising motivation theory, franchisor characteristics, franchisee characteristics, contract characteristics, relationship characteristics, performance characteristics, franchise strategy, franchise industry, and policy-related studies. In six academic fields categorized mainly from overseas papers, a total of seven areas in which franchise management strategy and industry/policy were added to five topics excluding the basic theory, motivation theory, were classified and considered. As a result of categorizing the total of 46 papers from the August 2015 issue of the Franchising Journal, the most recent March 2020 issue, by seven themes, the research on the characteristics of the Franchisor headquarters was 10, accounting for 22% of the published paper, 3 for 7% of papers on franchisee characteristics, 8 for 17% papers for contract characteristics, 7 for 15% papers for relationship characteristics, and 24% for franchise strategies, and finally the study on franchise industry and policy was counted as 7, 15%. This study introduced the outlines of thesis by topic to enhance the researchers' use in future research, and intended to present promising topics for future franchise research.
